LingonAIzer

Major challenges are faced in educational landscapes across Europe linked to deficits in language (learning) awareness – with consequences reaching far beyond institutional contexts of schooling and affecting e.g. working life opportunities and societal integration at larger scale. Building on extensive research foundations, long-term experiences and various practices of individual language (learning) profiling in educational contexts, the project will bring about a novel AI-powered support application for fostering language (learning) awareness and language-aware learning individually across curriculum – as a result of multisectoral co-creation, large-scale piloting and accompanying policy dialogue. 

Aiming at an outcome with true prospects for long-term implementation and multisectoral further adaptation in the future, we will, from the very beginning on, follow a bottom-up-approach and engage multiple target and co-operation groups at all times: students and teachers especially for trial-implementation of application prototypes, research staff for accompanying usability studies, and representatives of language (education) policies for stakeholder observation and feedback – all measures systematically paving way for the final design, technical realization and piloting of LingonAIzer.

The main outcome of the project will be LingonAIzer 1.0 – the first completely implementation-ready version of an AI-powered application, enabling a continuous and personalized support for fostering language (learning) awareness and language-aware learning in- and outside institutional settings of schooling, the main focus, however, remaining on the language domain school with its specific features of both cross-curricular and subject-specific acquisition and use of (academic) language and communication competences. Along with this, and through a wide-scale piloting of the innovation, evidence of its added value, as well as guidelines & prospects for its optimized long-term use and further development / adaptation to other language domains will be published.
